Education Technology Services is proud to offer a wide variety of professional development programs for the educators of Baldwin County. Digital Renaissance Leadership Academy, Discovery Educator Network STAR Ambassador Program, and eMints are a few of the opportunities offered. Digital Renaissance Leadership Academy trained 300 teachers last year and will train over 200 teachers this year. This academy focuses on transforming to a student-centered classroom assisted by the technology through Digital Renaissance and monthly, day long professional developments throughout an entire calendar year. The academy also includes modeling and classroom visits for teachers. Discovery Educator Network Star Ambassador Program is with our strategic partner, Discovery Education. We are one of 30 districts world-wide to participate in the DEN Ambassador Program. Baldwin County has had the most participants of any district in the program, over 150 teachers. The ambassador program focuses on teacher collaboration while emphasizing strategies and tools through Discovery Education. This is a three month program with three face to face meetings and an online course led by our Instructional Transformation Specialists per feeder pattern. The Star Program and the guidance through trainings and co-teaching with the instructional specialists in schools has increased our Discovery Education usage by over 400% in the last year. Finally, eMints is an intensive two-year professional development program that uses evening sessions monthly and full day sessions quarterly. eMints provides teachers with the skills to create a student-centered, project based classroom through inquiry.
In addition to these programs we have Instructional Transformation Specialists who provide professional development outside of the programs. These specialists serve as not only trainers but as coaches that work along side teachers to help them with the transition from teacher centered instruction to student centered instruction. They will often be found working on projects with teachers in the classroom, answering questions via email, or even molding a lesson for a teacher.
